Why the 0.05 TH/s Floor Matters for Home Rigs
Ratings at or above 0.05 TH/s change heat density in compact chassis—here is what we measure differently.
Units advertised below 0.05 TH/s often dissipate heat through passive or single-fan layouts that tolerate bedroom shelves. Cross that band in a palm-sized case and watt density jumps enough that VRM phases become the first failure point rather than the hash ASIC itself.
In our Jeonju audits we treat 0.05 TH/s as the threshold where sustained load tests run a full ninety minutes instead of sixty. Below that figure, memory modules rarely exceed 75°C in typical apartments; above it, we see spikes within forty minutes when intake clearance is under three centimeters.
Operators shopping second-hand should ask sellers for pool-side averages, not factory stickers. A unit labeled 0.06 TH/s that throttles to 0.04 under warm ambient conditions behaves like a sub-threshold rig thermally even if peak hash briefly looks fine.
If your room cannot maintain intake spacing and a separate exhaust path, consider staying under the band or budgeting for enclosure review before purchase. The hardware may hash acceptably on a open bench yet fail silently on a bookshelf backing a drywall panel.
