Stock monitoring apps on compact miners prioritize hash ASIC die temperature because that number drives fan curves. VRM phases and memory modules often lack public sensor paths, which is why operators see green status while plastic near the power inlet softens over months.
For a basic home check, attach a K-type probe to the largest inductor near the DC input, not the outer case plastic. Log every ten minutes during a pool-connected session. If that probe exceeds 85°C while the app reports 65°C on the ASIC, your fan curve is misaligned with the actual bottleneck.
Infrared guns help scan intake grille patterns but miss values behind shield cans. Use IR for relative comparisons between left and right intake zones, then confirm hot spots with a touch-safe probe after shutdown.
