Comparing Compact ASIC Form Factors Above 0.05 TH/s

Cube, brick, and open-frame layouts trade noise for thermal headroom in small rooms.

Three common shapes dominate the compact class we review: sealed cubes with front/rear fans, open-frame bricks with top exhaust, and hybrid cases with side intakes. Each hits 0.05–0.08 TH/s bands but couples to rooms differently.

Cubes mask noise and fit bookshelves, yet trap heat if rear exhaust faces a wall. We measure rear clearance obsessively on this shape because a 2 cm gap can add 10°C to memory modules within an hour.

Open-frame bricks dump heat upward, ideal for garage benches, harsh in bedrooms where upward exhaust hits low ceilings. Acoustic dampening mats help neighbors but insulate surfaces you may not want insulated.

Hybrid side-intake models tolerate sideways placement but suffer when operators stack units. Vertical spacing of at least 15 cm between stacked frames preserved hash stability in our December bench comparison.

Power brick placement changes thermals too. External adapters tucked behind the unit heat their own nook; internal PSU models warm intake air before it reaches ASICs. Note adapter age— sagging 12 V rails show up as hash dips before overtemperature shutdowns.

Choose form factor after measuring shelf depth, ceiling height, and whether exhaust can point away from living spaces. Hash rate alone misleads if the shape fights your room.
